Nelson V. Morton, 80, formerly of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at his home in Kampsville, Illinois.
He was born October 24, 1941, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Clarence P. and Dorothy Webb Morton. He and Carol Reynolds were married April 22, 1962, in Jackson. They had been married 36 years when Carol passed away September 15, 1998.
Nelson was a 1959 graduate of Jackson High School, where he also played football. He honorably served in the Missouri National Guard from 1959 to 1962.
A journeyman pipefitter and member of AFL CIO #420 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Nelson's last employment was with Strange and Coleman in East St. Louis. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Grafton, Illinois.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Terri (Dennis) Brown of Oak Ridge, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Brittney Emery, Jessica Cook, Dustin Sebastian, Joni (David) Warren, Jeffery (Robin) Brown, Jeromy Pair, and Brandi Washer; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lafern Lane of Jefferson City, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Mary Morton of Jackson; a very special friend, Charlotte Kearby of Kampsville and her daughter, Joan Baker of North Carolina; his feline companion, Puff; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a daughter, Kimberly (Darren) Launius.
The Rev. Jimmie Corbin will conduct a graveside service will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, September 30, 2022 , at Old Shiloh Cemetery near Pocahontas. Graveside military honors will be rendered.
Arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
