Norma E. Sewing, 95, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born November 27, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, to Leo and Amanda I. Meyer Peetz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit, Missouri.
Norma and Walter M. Sewing were united in marriage on July 28, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville, Missouri. Six children were born to their union, Walter M “Marty”, Gerald, Tom, Andy, Brenda, and Daphne. They had been married 68 years when Walter passed away February 4, 2015.
Norma was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, where she enjoyed quilting with the Ladies Aid and served several years as the secretary.
Loving survivors include five children, Gerald (Kathy) Sewing and Tom (Debra) Sewing of Jackson, Andy Sewing of St. Charles, Mo., Brenda (Gary) Hester of Chaffee, and Daphne Sewing of Tucson, Arizona; two siblings, Charleen Statler of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Esther Roberts of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Walter M. “Marty” Sewing in 1975; a granddaughter, and a sister, Wilma Nations.
Visitation is from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Sunday, September 26, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
The funeral is at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the church, with the Rev. Joshua Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Ladies Aid or St. Paul Radio Broadcast.
