Ricky Leonard Abney, 69, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson.
Ricky was born June 12, 1952, to Harvey "Dick" and Verla Miner Abney in St. Louis, Missouri.
Ricky was a 1970 graduate of Meadow Heights High School. He was an electrician, working many years in construction.
Ricky loved baseball. He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and never missed a Cape Catfish game. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and fishing and made handcrafted leather belts. He trained quarter horses and enjoyed riding and competing in local horse shows.
Ricky is survived by a daughter, Tara (Jared) Smith of Potosi, Missouri; two grandchildren, Rylie Jade Smith and Austin Smith; a sister, Vickie (Mark) Mungle of Jackson; two brothers, Danny (the late Debby) Abney of Burfordville, Missouri, Lanny Abney (Roberta Forslund) of Viburnum, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister-in-law, Debby Abney.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Boss Cemetery in Boss, Missouri, with the Rev. Kim Ferguson officiating.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship, 192 Hope Hill Road, Oak Ridge, MO 63769.
