Robin Jones Obituary

Robin H. Jones, 85, passed away Friday, August 30, 2019, at his home in Oak Ridge.

He was born October 20, 1933, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to Noah F. and Willie Robinson Jones.  He and Augustine Henley were married August 17, 1955, in Abilene, Texas.

Robin was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, serving honorably from 1955 to 1957.  He was based in Japan during the Korean War.  He reached the summit of Mt. Fuji, receiving all station stamps on his “Fuji Stick”.  Robin utilized the G. I. Bill many years and earned a master’s degree in music education.  He taught music, math, and social studies at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Oakland, California, retiring in 1988.  After 28 years of teaching he was voted “Best Teacher” by the students.

Robin loved family, music, hunting, fishing, training dogs, and good food, but he especially enjoyed teaching his great-grandchildren how to play chess.  Because he was passionate about everything he did, he never did things halfway.  His music had to be darn near perfect; his dogs were very obedient; and he was so accomplished at chess that some called him a “master”, even though he never played in tournaments.  For the last few years, he ate lunch at Broussards almost every day.  The “Jones Special” consisted of oysters, crawfish etoouffe, and bread pudding.

Robin was a member of the Jackson Church of Christ, serving as their song leader for many years and assisting with Thursday School until his health declined.

Loving survivors include his wife of 64 years, Augustine Jones of Oak Ridge; four children, Mark Jones of Oak Ridge, Terry Jones of Hayward, California, Andrea (Paul) Pederson of Mesa, Arizona, Renee (Robert) Barks of Oak Ridge; eight grandchildren, Christopher Jones of Jackson, Mark Jones of Cape Girardeau, Kyle Jones of Hayward, Kaitlyn Jones of New York, Noah and Jonah Pederson of Mesa, Anthony (Jodie) Barks of Oak Ridge, and Ashley (Greg) Martin of Jackson; nine great-grandchildren, Ben, Eisley, Alex, Lola Mae, Kody, Jason, Kaleb, Emma, and Lillian; and two siblings, Bettye Smith of Norman, Oklahoma and J. B. Jones of Berkley, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings, Mary Beth Jones and Charles Foster Jones.
