Ruth Tinnin Obituary

Ruth Coleen Morton Tinnin, 83, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 13, 1937, in Fruitland, the only child of Robert and Estell Wallace Morton. She and LeeRoy Tinnin were married in June 1956. LeeRoy passed away Feb. 9, 1996.

Ruth was a nurturer and took care of everyone in her family, caring for both of her parents until their passing. She also cared for two of her aunts and an uncle in their old age and was always there for her kids and grandkids, whenever she was needed. She loved her family dearly, and that love was returned many times over.

Ruth graduated from Jackson High School in 1955. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. Ruth was a very active member at the church, where she served as the secretary for the Perdue Lear Circle, sang in the choir for years, worked at many church functions and was awarded the Presbyterian Woman of the Year award in 2007. In addition, she loved singing and performed with the Sweet Adelines women’s choir for several years.

In the late 1960s Ruth served as the postmistress at the Fruitland Post office. She was the payroll clerk for the local Procter & Gamble plant from the day it opened until 1997, when she deservingly retired after 27 years of dedicated service. She made many lifelong friends during that time of employment.

Ruth enjoyed traveling and, after retirement, she took trips to Hawaii, Alaska and many other states.

Ruth continuously served the area, accumulating over 4,000 hours as a volunteer for Southeast Hospital, serving as president of Parents Without Partners in 1992, and for 30 years acting as the secretary treasurer of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association.

In later years Ruth suffered from poor health, but she never complained and accepted her condition as it was. She did say once that she was used to being the caregiver, not the one being cared for. Ruth was gentle, loving and gracious. Her family will always miss her presence in their lives, as they know that Ruth is watching over them just as she always did; and they know that she is pain free and singing in the Angel’s choir in Heaven now.

Loving survivors include three children, Patrice Rene (Duane) Statler, LeeAnn (Gary) Schenimann and Ronald Gene Tinnin, all of Jackson.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom Ruth adored.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, her parents and an infant brother.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Fruitland, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
