Shelby Stroder Obituary

Shelby C. "Sheb" Stroder, age 88, of Sedgewickville, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at his home.
He was born December 1, 1934, in Crump, son of Elmer "Dale" and Grace "Aline" Hosea Stroder. He and Anna Marie Hennecke were married October 12, 1956 in Cape Girardeau. In August 1957 he was inducted into the United States Army in Cape Girardeau and was honorably discharged in Fort Sheridan, Illinois in August 1959. He was a member of Sedgewickville United Methodist Church where he had attended for over 58 years. Shelby was a hard worker all his life. Over the years he worked in construction, mining and for the Missouri Highway Department. He later worked with his brother Roy at Roy Stroder Masonry. Shelby was an avid bowler, St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and was very meticulous with his yard. He enjoyed riding with the Jackson Trail Riders for many years and making walking sticks and canes in his spare time. Above all he loved his time with his family and friends.
Loving survivors include his wife of 66 years, Anna Marie Stroder; three children, Chris (Chris) Bess of Millersville, Jeff (Barbie) Stroder of Jackson, and Holly (Todd) Brand of St. Albans, Missouri; Seven grandchildren, Ashley (Holt) Walker, Caitlyn Bess, Caleb (Kali) Bess, Matthew Stroder, Tanner Brand, Walker Brand and Tori Brand; three great grandchildren, Eliza, Jack and Ruby Walker; two brothers, Harold (Lina) Stroder of Jackson and Mac Stroder of St. Libory, Illinois; and his beloved horse Angel who has been with him for almost 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Lynn Stroder; five siblings, Gertrude Ledbetter, Richard "Bud" Stroder, Roxie Beussink, W.D. "Dub" Stroder, and Roy Stroder.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2023 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Sedgewickville United Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Alex Niswonger officiating.
Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sedgewickville United Methodist.
