Terry Lane Hopkins, 80, of Burfordville, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at his home.
He was born July 27, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, to Noah Dillard and Sarah Beulah Dockins Hopkins. He attended Burfordville Grade School and Jackson High School.
Terry served in the U.S. Army, with basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and Fort KnoX. He served in Korea on the DMZ and was also stationed at Camp RobertS in California. He was honorably discharged November 30, 1969.
He and Janet Sides were married August 21, 1970, at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson, also the church of Terry’s baptism, confirmation, and current membership.
Terry raised cattle and farmed all his life. For several years, he worked as a veterinary assistant to the late Dr. Uren. He was also a member of the Operating Engineers Local 513.
Terry and Janet owned and operated the Little Old Opry for 30-plus years, and they still owned the Little Opry Campground.
Loving survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janet Hopkins of Burfordville; a son, John (Jackie) Hopkins of Burfordville; three grandchildren, Matthew S. (Melanie) Hopkins of St. James, Missouri, Jesse L. (Nacole) Hopkins and Abby M. Hopkins, both of Burfordville; seven great-grandchildren; three siblings, Ora Lee (Helen) Hopkins of Burfordville, and Dianna Caramico and Delores Poulos, both of Palatine, Illinois; nephews and nieces, Ronnie (Diane) Hopkins, Gary (Denise) Hopkins, Vonnie Hopkins, Kathy (Mike) Ellis; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Gene Hopkins and N.D. Hopkins; and a nephew, Tex Hopkins.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to service time, Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral is at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bruce Baxter officiating. Committal and military honors will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
