Thelma A. Wade, 94, beloved mother, wife and friend, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at her home in Jackson, in the loving care of her family.
She was born June 21, 1925, in Amelia, Virginia, to Earl and Clara Blackburn Ward. She was a graduate of Amelia High School and then attended business college in Richmond, Virginia. During WWII, she worked for the military as a secretary at the Port of Embarkation in Newport News, Virginia. It was there that she met her future husband, Will Wade, while he was awaiting his Naval discharge at Norfolk, Virginia. Thelma and Will were married December 6, 1946, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. They had been married 73 years when Will passed away December 8, 2019.
While raising their three sons, Thelma was primarily a homemaker. As the boys grew, she continued her education through adult course work and extension schools of other various institutions. In later years, she and Will owned and operated a real estate company.
Since 2005, Thelma had been a member of Crossroads Fellowship in Jackson, where she was active in the Psalm Bible Study Group and served on the Leadership Team, which directs policies and procedures of the church. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, where she taught Sunday School, worked with the youth, served on numerous committees and councils, assisted in the outreach program, and sang in both the Sanctuary and Senior Adult Choirs.
Loving survivors include three sons, Charles (Judy) Wade of Bloomfield, Missouri, Wesley (Janet) Wade and Robert (Maria) Wade of Jackson; six grandchildren, Lorie (Daniel) Fisher, Mark Wade, Luke (Katy) Wade, Esther Wade and Lydia Wade, Sheila (John) Hottel; great-grandchildren, Dustin Fisher, Ashton (Aaron) Grainger, Carson Wade, Edeline Wade, Madison and Abby Hottel ; and a great-great grandson, Aden Grainger; a sister, Margaret Chase of Mount Sidney, Virginia; nephews, Jimmy (Jan) Ward of Marble Hill and Walter (Judy) Ward of Chester, Virginia, three nieces, June Turner of Mount Sidney, Virginia, Shirley (Richard) Patterson of Madisonville, Kentucky and Dana Daves of Smyrna, Tennessee; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a granddaughter, Tonya Jordan; two infant granddaughters, Emilita Wade and Tracy Wade; and a brother, James (Frances) Ward, a niece Brenda Ward Sprouse and a nephew Jack Allison.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to service time, Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Crossroads Fellowship, 4400 East Jackson Blvd., Jackson, MO 63755. Rev. Brian Anderson will officiate the funeral at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at the church. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crossroads Fellowship Sidekicks Ministry for Children or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
