Obituary
Grant VanGennip, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday March 15, 2023 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Grant was born January 23, 1934 in Advance, MO to the late John and Maude Sample VanGennip. He and Mary Catherine Gregory were married in 1959 she preceded him in April of 2017.
Upon graduation from Advance High School Grant served two years in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge Grant moved to St. Louis where he embarked on his life long career as a machinist. He loved to hunt, fish and garden.
Grant is survived by his son Kevin (Tammy) VanGennip of Orange City, FL, a daughter Stacy (Sean) Skelton Of Edwardsville, IL, grandchildren Katie (Mark) Zurline of O'Fallon, MO, Kelly VanGennip of Orlando, FL, Hannah Skelton of St. Louis, MO and Jacob Skelton of Edwardsville, MO and two great-grandchildren Lexi and Lani Zurline.
He was preceded by three brothers; Ben, Robert and Paul VanGennip and two sisters, Rita Shell and Mildred VanGennip
A private graveside service will be held at a later date with full military honors accorded.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home.
